What are you doing on Social Saturday – 14 October?

SEEK project logo - starting social enterprise

Everywhere you go these days there is talk of all things social with opportunities to engage, connect, influence and sell through all the different social media channels like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, so you might think it is another social media event to attend but on a Saturday. Not quite!

Social Saturday, an initiative managed by Social Enterprise UK, is a day dedicated to raising awareness of the benefits of buying from and working with social enterprises that exist to help with social or environmental issues through selling goods and services.

If you think you have never heard of a social enterprise before, think about famous brands such as Divine Chocolate, Jamie’s Fifteen or The Big Issue – all of these are nationally recognised social enterprises and have worked to help people in the UK and across the world achieve a better life through what they do.  Closer to home, there are thriving social enterprise initiatives and services that equally work to help towards easing the social and environmental issues in Croydon.  Organisations such as MyOutSpace, Raising Great Aspirations, Fit2Learn, CAYSH and The Croydon Citizen to name a few.

Our SEEK social enterprises are working towards joining these established social businesses and will have the opportunity to take part in an event in the Whitgift Centre planned for 14 October to help raise awareness of Croydon based social enterprises and what they are doing.

So if you are interested in finding out more about Social Saturday, social enterprises or want to buy or source products or services from a business that also helps the local community, you can use social media and follow the #SocialSaturday2017 hashtag on Twitter, go to the Social Enterprise UK website https://www.socialenterprise.org.uk/social-saturday-2017 or follow us on @StartUpCroydon for further details of what’s happening.
