Virtual Open Day Proves to be a Hit

Over the last few years StartUp Croydon have provided start-ups and established businesses the opportunity to find out more about aspects of running a business from experts and specialists and provided opportunities for networking.  These have traditionally been held face-to-face however, due to COVID-19, like many businesses, we have had to adapt.

So, our first foray into bringing a larger online group together took place on 27 May as part of the Building Business Horizons (BBH).  The individual sessions started with an introduction to policies and procedures needed in running a business or social enterprise which was delivered by our in-house expert and BBH trainer/facilitator Anna Burke.

Our external speakers provided their time and expertise freely and started with Bernard Weatherill QC giving a detailed presentation on the essential terms and conditions for both the provision of goods and services.  The main takeaway from this session was to thoroughly read through template terms and conditions and make them specific to the type of business

This was followed by Rajan Amin of Coversure Croydon who spoke in his engaging and enthusiastic style, about the different types of insurance that businesses need to consider.

Following a well-earned break from the screen, Bernard Weatherill provided important tools and practices to help ensure that customers pay you on time and ways in which business owners can escalate payment recovery.

Feedback from some of our participants suggested it had been very helpful to them

“Good broad coverage of all different types of businesses. Made the sessions useful no matter if you were selling products or services etc”

“The session was very well-thought out – it was engaging and I felt the atmosphere was relaxed and made it very comfortable for delegates to ask questions”

“Having some of the policies explained in more detail really helped with that session and the terms and conditions one too. The last time i did it the goods one was explained more so was really happy to have the services one explained more in detail”

We hope to be able to resume our face-to-face activities soon, however, this situation has shown that advice and support can be provided in many forms and each can complement the other.

Thank you to all our speakers for taking their time to deliver their sessions and to those who attended.
