Startup Croydon is on the UP!

  • News

After 10 years of developing the Startup Croydon brand, we are now growing up and will be known simply as UP!

Startup Croydon is certainly not disappearing and will continue to be a strong presence for our service users seeking mentoring, training, and support. We are, however, rebranding to bring in the other pillars of our business. As a small team, we deliver many different services for a broad range of the business community and its now time to highlight them and bring them together under one trading name.

Startup Croydon is Growing up!

Our core offering is our serviced office space through our purpose-built office block just off Purley Way and 2 minutes from Wandle Park tram stop. Our tenants vary in industry and include solicitors, accountants, care providers and charities. We offer a percentage of offices at discounted rates to Startups for a limited time to help them get started, but by and large, our tenants are established businesses. We also support a large part of the local business community as a Virtual Office address.

The Creative Digital Lab, which launched in 2023, has changed our client base as we now offer services for creative businesses and individuals through our resources that enhance film production and provide incredible work experience opportunities to ambitious creatives in the area. The resources have attracted a new community, businesses that deliver creative solutions and are using the technology. New tenants include a sound engineer, a video production company and a dynamic production company. This brings a new level of energy and is one we wish to develop further.

We also deliver many different business support packages and are an accredited member of the National Enterprise Network and Business for London. These projects are often for service users across South London and not limited to Croydon.

As you can see, we serve many different communities and impact so much more than just the Startup Community. Our Registered name, Croydon Enterprise Agency, along with our Registered Charity, Croydon Business Venture and our Building name of Weatherill House, have left us confused on who we are and which brand to lead with. Our CEO, Saffron Saunders, felt the brand was not representing us, and after 10 years as Startup Croydon, she has been working with support from a talented in-house team, impactful trustees and external advice and action from the creative community, is now delighted to start 2026 with a new identity which will sit above our different offerings and tie them together.

Welcome to UP! Where your Next Level Starts.

After navigating muddy waters in the past few years, this rebrand will pivot our mission and propel our organisation forward, continuing to attract ambitious local people and helping us focus on excelling as a hub for growth.

Formerly, we led with the brand Startup Croydon; UP is the evolution of our mission. We’ve helped hundreds of entrepreneurs start, grow, and succeed. Now, we’re lifting that vision higher — a hub where ideas, people, and businesses rise together.”

Why move from Startup Croydon to UP?

  • Broader Reach: “Startup Croydon” anchors the brand to a specific location, which is great for local recognition but limiting for growth beyond the borough. UP signals ambition, movement, and universal relevance.
  • Simplification: A one-word brand name is modern, bold, and memorable.
  • Positive Association: “UP” naturally connotes growth, optimism, elevation, and progress — all perfect for an entrepreneurship hub.

We have a new website and a new leading narrative, and we will be delivering more events to bring together the Up Community. Look out for a calendar of events which will draw together South London’s progressive and enthusiastic community and evolve further as the year goes on.

How Selection Works?

We’re looking for applicants who are motivated, have early traction, understand their market, and can commit to the full programme. We also aim for a cohort reflecting Croydon’s diversity and community impact.

  1. Application review: Eligible applicants are scored 1–5 on six weighted areas:
    • Readiness & commitment
    • Business traction
    • Growth potential
    • Market understanding
    • Feasibility to participate
    • Local impact & inclusion
  2. Interviews: Short conversations assessing clarity of growth vision, openness to learning, commitment, and fit with the group.
  3. Final selection: Application (60 %) + Interview (40 %) = overall score.
