We are seeking two resourceful, experienced, results-driven individuals to join our enterprise team as Digital Business Advisers to help us deliver a wide range of support activities relating to the London E-Business programme to assist SMEs become more digitally aware.

Job Description

Whilst this is a Pan London programme we will be specifically working with SMEs in 5 London boroughs – Croydon, Sutton, Merton, Richmond and Kingston.

The successful candidate(s) will need to be preferably educated to a degree level/SFEDI qualified and/or can demonstrate extensive experience advising and supporting SMEs within the digital arena.

Ideally the successful applicant(s) would have experience working in the enterprise / business support and funded project environment but this is not essential. They must be able to manage their own workload and have excellent communication and networking skills.

Position Details:

Digital Business Advisor x2

Main Purpose of Job: Delivery of the E-Business Programme

Relationships: Reporting to Project Manager / CEO

Based at/hours: Location in Croydon although some time will be spent in other boroughs

Full-time 35 hours per week (Occasional evening and weekend work may be required)

Contract: 21 months year Fixed Term (Ending 31 March 2025)

Salary: £35,000-40,000 per annum

Main Roles and Responsibilities

Supporting the E-Business Programme to meet project milestones and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This role provides business advice and support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located in the South London Partnership (SLP) area including the boroughs of Croydon, Sutton, Merton, Richmond and Kingston.

The business adviser will assist businesses to identify digital technology that helps them to achieve their growth goals. The business adviser will be involved at all stages of the project from undertaking outreach to recruiting SMEs; delivering talks to local business networks and organising events.

This role will support SMEs throughout the life of the project and periodically collect evidence of the positive outcomes achieved.

Deliver project outputs and milestones as shown in the delivery profile for this role:

• Meeting SMEs on a ‘one to one’ basis to complete a Diagnostic, followed with support to implement a Digital Business Plan

• Assist SMEs to identify digital technology to support their growth plans and identify skills gaps in the company; followed by referrals to the project Digital Expert and e-business skills training webinars/seminars;

• Completion of project documentation, ensuring forms are completed accurately and client signatures obtained as required

• Create content and deliver business skills webinars/seminars and taster sessions when required for the programme


• To support the overall aims and objectives of the project it may be necessary to work in one or all of the project boroughs

• Outreach to engage business networks

• Organisation and delivery of events in designated town centres

• Monthly reporting to the Project Manager/Programme Manager

• Ensure quality of business advice standards are maintained and progressed

Essential Skills & Experience

Requirement: E = Essential / D = DesirableE or D
Experience & Qualifications
Enterprise Support Level 3 Qualification or equivalent i.e. SFEDI assessment at this levelD
Experience as a business adviser to SMEs for a period of 3 years or moreE
Experience working on a funded projects i.e. ESF, ERDF, Greater London Authority etcD
A current working knowledge of e-business, digital marketing, social media, business planning, financial forecasting and sources of financeE
Experience of delivering workshops/seminars/webinarsE
Understanding of the difficulties SMEs are facing as a result of COVID19, particularly those who are already under-represented in business i.e. women, BAME and disabled entrepreneursE
Skills & Competencies
Comprehensive IT skills, understanding of current e-business practicesE
Excellent communication and written skills, including presentation skillsE
Good organizational and time management skills to ensure client records and service statistics are accurate and completeE
Prior industry experience in business growth and support sectorD
A team player who is hardworking and capable of working on their own initiativeE
Willingness and ability to travel in Croydon, Sutton, Merton, Richmond or Kingston if requiredE
Willingness to work flexibly and potentially outside of normal working hours on occasionE
