Fintan has owned and managed The HR Dept in South London for 10 years.

He advises small businesses on all HR issues having over thirty years’ experience in organisations across a range of industries and markets.

Fintan is legally qualified and specialises in dispute resolution and complex HR matters such as TUPE.

Paul Taylor

Honorary Treasurer

Paul Taylor joined StartUp Croydon as a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer in August 2021.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a founding partner of Kingsmill Partnership (now part of DSK) he brings financial expertise as well as knowledge of owner-managed businesses and start-ups.

Paul sold his interest in KMP in 2018 and now works with a select group of personal clients and start-ups.

Emma Carpenter


Emma Carpenter has been a Business Relations Manager at Barclays for over 20 years and a Trustee/Director for almost 16 years.

Emma is the go-to person for help with business funding, business support and information on general funding/finance across the banking sector.

Geraldine Cumberbatch

Geraldine is a lawyer with over 15 years’ experience, both in private practice and as an in-house lawyer, working with personal injury and industrial disease claims, as well as advising on health and safety issues.

More recently, Geraldine has been handling dispute and regulatory matters on behalf of the Port of London Authority, the body responsible for the running and protection of 95 tidal miles of the River Thames.

John Walsham


One of our longest standing Board members, John Walsham has been working with the StartUp Croydon team for the last 20 years to create relationships with the NatWest Accelerator Hub, as well as exploring potential links with the Co-operative Bank for support, and is a huge help with getting banks actively involved with the charity.

John has spent 36 years at NatWest and is now self-employed helping local business owners, start-ups and Bromley Enterprise.

Richard Sumption


With 42 years’ service at HSBC as Commercial Bank Manager, Richard is now retired but actively assisting StartUp Croydon as a Trustee/Director since 2011 in his capacity as mentor and 1-2-1 advisor on the Building Business Horizons programme.

Siff Shah


Siff is a Client Insights Manager at KPMG with over 12 years’ experience overseeing client relationships across the FS sector, responsible for ensuring that value is consistently added for their clients and that relationships are mutually beneficial.

She previously worked as a Private banking Manager for a major Retail and Commercial bank and as an Independent Financial advisor in Zurich Canton, Switzerland, providing English speaking expats with retirement planning and investment advice.

Jo Gumb


Co-founder and director of White Label Creative for 10 years and Jo was a former CBV 3-Day course alumni member who assisted the Operations Director in refreshing 3-day course content and she now delivers the advertising and marketing portion of the course.

Jo is a generalist providing support to start-ups, financial and grant applications advice, Building Business Horizons programme refresh, marketing and communications.

Richard Plant


As a Partner of Stiles Harold Williams, Richard Plant is very well known in the local business community and, as well as being a Board member of StartUp Croydon, he is also Chair of Develop Croydon.

Richard deals with property identification, building advice, speaking to our licensees with regard to move-on space, and workshops/talks on property matters.

Lisa McCance


Lisa McCance joined StartUp Croydon as a Trustee 7 years ago when she was working for Croydon Council Economic Development as a representative and is now part of consultancy company, Shared Intelligence, working on economic development policy and strategy.

She is also a National Enterprise Network Director, lobbying for BEIS and SME support.

Her contribution as a Trustee encompasses all areas of her expertise (see above) together with funding opportunities.

Toni Letts


Toni Letts is a Councillor at Croydon Council and is a former Mayor of Croydon.

Her responsibilities include acting as a business and military champion, and she has been a Shadow Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration for over 17 years.

Part of her role as a Trustee on the Board is to seek funding.

Georgina Thomas


Georgina is a Founder and Director of GGT Solutions who have a base at Weatherill House and are currently involved in the evaluation of StartUp Croydon’s Building Business Horizons programme and the delivery of workshops and masterclasses on BBH.

She is a relatively new Trustee who can help provide innovative thoughts, reaching new audiences, design of additional business courses, evaluation, growth, reshaping new programmes, BLM, young ethnic, creative, thinking outside box, business coaching/mentoring.

David Robinson

Life President

David Robinson is a chartered accountant who has been a member of the board for thirty five years, seventeen of which was as chairman from 2001.

During his period as chairman, David instigated the move to charitable status as well as the move to Weatherill House in the New South Quarter.

Throughout, his career, he has advised SME’s on finance and strategy with particular emphasis on the continuing need to always be alert to the changing business environment.

Geoffrey Dove

Life President

Geoffrey Dove, formerly of car dealership Doves of Croydon, was made an MBE in recognition of his work for small businesses in Croydon in January 2001.

Together with other Directors within the business community, he and Sir Bernard Weatherill formed Croydon Business Venture in 1983 to assist start-ups and small businesses by giving high quality practical advice on the requirements and pitfalls of starting a new business.

CBV was re-branded as StartUp Croydon in 2016 to reflect the services offered.

StartUp Croydon is governed by its Articles of Association. The Articles of Association require the Charity to be managed by the Trustees who are also directors of the Company.

The Trustees meet bi-monthly and are governed by their Terms of Reference . The trustees delegate day-to-day administrative responsibility to the Operations Director and the team.

The Trustees continually assess the risks to which the Charity is exposed. They are satisfied that there are systems in place to manage exposure to major risk.

The Trustees have also approved policies on Conflicts of Interest and Bribery.
